Why is your cat not using the litter box?
- Usually, the number one reason is that cats are very persnickety. They have a strong sense of smell, and a dirty litter box can aggravate a cat. They don’t like when you take your own sweet time to scoop and change their litter. You should scoop at least daily and change the litter box at least every four or five days. Otherwise, some cats pick other spots that you may only be aware of when, one day, you go to clean up some of your hoarded piles of junk and find it smelling of cat pee.
2. Location, location, location.
Where do you have this litter box located? Is it in the open with a lot of noise going on around it and kids and other pets running by? A cat likes a quiet, private place such as under the dining room table or some corner that is not used much and doesn’t get much traffic.
3. Health concerns
Sometimes, if there is a change in your cat litter box behavior, it can signal health issues, maybe some kind of urinary tract infection. Be sure to consult your veterinarian If you suspect any health issues.
4. Type of litter used.
I read about pine pellets and decided that they would be perfect since they have a great smell, are cheap, and totally mask any odor. Unfortunately, my cat did not like these pine pellets, and my daughter, Chief…
