I think Jack Black portrayed this guy with a great deal of tenderness and nuance. We come to have sympathy for Bernie, even after the brutal murder.
Once upon a time, in the quirky little town of Carthage, there lived a mortician named Bernie Teide (pronounced “Teeter”). Bernie was known far and wide as the nicest guy around. He always had a smile on his face, a kind word for everyone, and he genuinely cared for his fellow townsfolk. But there was one person who seemed to be immune to Bernie’s charms — the infamous Marjorie Green.
Marjorie was, without a doubt, the most disliked woman in town. She had a talent for making enemies left and right with her sharp tongue and abrasive personality. Everyone had a Marjorie story to tell. She hadn’t spoken to her own family, including grandchildren, for years! The townspeople couldn’t stand her, and even her own family had sued her. She had found a way to deny them the money left in a trust by her late husband.
It was rumored in town, that if you wanted a visit from Marjorie, you would make the sign of the devil (a pentagram) on the floor and chant “I summon…
