Proof AI will always need humans: I asked Google whether she could call 911, if I needed it.
Blog Post: A Hilarious (and Embarrassing) Lesson in Asking Google About 911
Hi friends, I have to share the most ridiculous moment I had recently — one of those situations that’s funny in hindsight but completely mortifying in real-time. So, grab a cup of hot chocolate because this one’s good.
One time I saw a YouTube about a man who slipped in the shower, and his cat was his only companion. He laid there Unable to lift himself for hours, hoping to get help. Finally, he asked his cat to bring the cell phone to him. And his cat, probably thinking, “well, I do need to eat” brought him his phone, saving his life!
I was casually sitting at home when a thought popped into my head. Can Google or Siri or Alexa call 911 if I can’t use my hands? Logical question, right? I mean, you never know when you might need that feature. So, naturally, I asked Google the question aloud.
And what did Google do?
“Oh, darling, 911.” — -Actually, I think she said, “ OK, dialing 911”
Before I could process what was happening, I realized Google had just dialed 911 for me!
Ay Caramba! Google did what I asked… sort of.
